Owner: Gary Bell
Coach: Kirk Ferentz
New Ownership Start the Rebuilding Process in Seattle
7/16/10 Seattle, WA- After a rough season the Seattle Seahawks are now under new ownership. Long time NFL fan, Gary Bell has purchased the team and instantly began to rebuild Seattle’s roster. The most important part of rebuilding is finding the right coach and leaders for the future. With this in mind the ownership was able to pry Kirk Ferentz away from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ferentz is an outstanding football coach and was able to get the best out of his limited resources at Iowa, which he will have to do again with the Seahawks. The next step to a great franchise is finding your Quarterback of the future. On draft day the Seahawks were able to swing a deal where they found their QB. They sent two draft picks to the Patriots for Jay Cutler. After the shocking trade of Peyton Manning to the Patriots they were willing to part with Cutler for a reasonable price. Cutler has a rocket arm and Seattle thinks Ferentz will get him to buy into his system and drop his bad attitude.
These were just the first moves in what has been a very active off-season. Slowly and surely the new ownership have cleaned house and are looking to put a winning product on the field for the passionate Seahawks’ fans. They have given newly acquired Cutler a few weapons through trades and the draft with the likes of: Felix Jones, Kenny Britt, Steve Breaston, Dezmon Briscoe and Leon Washington. On the defensive side of the ball they drafted Devin McCourty who should instantly become a starter and help a secondary who struggled last season. Also, they acquired sack artist Elvis Dummervil to bolster the pass rush. With all these trades the Seahawks have chosen to give up their draft next year to get veteran players to help start winning now. This is probably not a bad thing to do when you have a roster as bad as they had going into this season. They needed a lot of moves to turn this team around and they have made some solid trades that should help them improve from last year, but might need a couple years before they see the playoffs.
This new ownership has showed it is very committed to winning no matter how much it costs. They have been a very active team so far this off-season and pledge to the fans in Seattle that they will remain active until they bring home the Sammy Baugh Trophy.
